Design Lab Retrospective Session
Part of making a “space to pause” more comfortable and useful to our group involved enabling the group to recognise patterns over time and cultivating mindsets to spot “connections” and changes in behaviour or thinking. We asked Gemma to support this– having an objective perspective on the programme journey for participants.
Voices of Experience - Emerging Infrastructure
Our organisational position is one whereby we attempt to strengthen good practice, community voices and the funding available (albeit without additional subsidy). We provide support to smaller emerging organisations through skills and knowledge sharing, and resources in order to build a broader movement.
Organisational Design - Everything is Retrievable
We introduced coaches to the programme, and over the last few weeks they have been working with the organisations taking part. There are five coaches supporting the organisations currently. Meeting with individuals or sub-groups to provide support on their defined organisational challenges-- as well as advising on where organisations taking part are still defining what it is that would best support their organisational health.
Changing our Minds
There were a few strands of learning this week, one from the workshop content and another from being able to observe and be around the group. The workshop content also prompted reflective questions on how we intentionally design for accessibility-- and I also had the opportunity to reflect on how we can set the space for learning in future.

Slowing Down
Our programme is under way, the Lab participants are attending workshops and we’ve been beavering away on structure and support for the programme. The Design Lab has officially kicked off.
Launching the Design Lab
Much of the work we do at Careful Industries is about understanding how communities can more actively shape digital technologies, so we’re really pleased to get the chance to spend the next year working with seven emerging infrastructure organisations.
